Elegant curtains divide the dining room from the large bar area with its high tables and grand piano. Our extensive Wine, Champagne and Spirits selection creates a remarkable display within the bar.

The Team

When it

all started

The Grill on the Square's doors were first opened in April 2010 by Charles Dobosz and Adam Smith.
They met whilst working together at Michael Caine's 2 star Michelin restaurant - Abode.
After becoming good friends during their time together in Manchester, they decided to embark on a new exciting venture together, and chose the old Post Office location in Warrington's Cultural Quarter, opposite The Parr Hall as the perfect setting for their new restaurant - The Grill on the Square.



Ondrej Straka

General Manager

Ondrej started his career in London where he worked as a waiter. This was until he was attracted to the north of England, specifically Manchester, where he acquired the position of Chef de Rang at Michelin star chef Michael Cain's restaurant - Abode. This is where he met Charles, the restaurant manager at Abode who noticed that Ondrej had a natural ability to deliver an outstanding level of customer service due to his charismatic personality. The two became great friends, and the rest is history!

Sarah Newall

Restaurant Manager

Sarah's passion for catering motivated her to complete a VRQ Professional Cookery Course at Warrington Collegiate. From here she gained an enthusiasm for all aspects of hospitality which she brought to The Grill on the Square. After starting as a waitress in 2001, she demonstrated a flair and talent for front of house service, which led to her being invited to join our management team.



Mike Zuger

Head Chef

Mike acquired his skills in the kitchen from a young age by working alongside his Swiss father in their family business - The Rockfield Hotel, Grappenhall. Strongly influenced by his Swiss heritage, Mike gained a passion for quality ingredients, and developed a talent for cooking with finesse. After travelling around America, South America, Europe & Australia for many years, he returned to the UK with an abundance of influences, which is reflected in his menu creations at The Grill on the Square.

Nigel Hankey

Sous Chef

Nigel is a very talented, creative and conscientious member of the kitchen team at The Grill on the Square, where he has worked since 2013. During this time he has created stunning specials and even competed for the prestigious title of North West Young Chef of the Year. Previous to his career at The Grill on the Square, Nigel trained at The Church Green in Lymm under Head Chef and owner, Aiden Byrne.

Andrew Norris

Second Sous Chef

Andrew’s desire to become a chef led him to The Petwood Hotel in Lincolnshire; famed for being used as the Officers Mess for the Dam Busters. Here, he successfully completed his chef training before advancing to a senior position at The Old English Hotel in the Lake District. Before joining the team at The Grill on the Square in Warrington, Andrew had been teaching international cooking styles at a popular culinary school in the Lake District and hosting chef demonstrations.
